Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Fort Lauderdale — 18 Minutes South via A1A

A1A south is the secret. Most Fort Lauderdale residents who consider BJJ default to looking at I-95, see the rush-hour times, and stop. The A1A route from downtown Fort Lauderdale to our academy is 18 minutes off-peak, 22 in light rush — through Hollywood Beach, past Hallandale, into Sunny Isles. It's a one-road drive with one stoplight cluster. Many of our Fort Lauderdale adults specifically train at our 7 PM slot because A1A clears around 6:30, making the drive home almost as fast as the drive in.

We are not in Fort Lauderdale and we won't pretend otherwise. There are competent BJJ academies inside the city — if your decision criterion is "closest gym with mats," start there. We are the choice when the criterion is "best instruction I can reach in under 25 minutes." Coach Jonatas is a 2x World Cup Champion (2004, 2005), 3x Pan American Champion, 4x Brazilian National Champion, and 5-0 as a professional MMA fighter. That résumé is rare anywhere in South Florida; in your direct radius, it's unmatched.

Our Fort Lauderdale students tend to fall into two patterns. The first: adults with prior martial arts experience — usually striking, sometimes wrestling — who want to add ground game with a coach whose pedigree justifies the trip. The second: parents who picked up their kid from a closer school once or twice, weren't impressed with the kids program structure, and decided the drive was worth the difference. Our kids program ladder runs from age 3 (Tiny Warriors) through age 12 (Full Winners) with separate kickboxing classes for ages 8–13.

Free parking on-site is rarer than you'd think on this stretch of Collins — most beachfront academies park you in a metered lot or a building garage. Our space at 17100 Collins (Suite 201) has dedicated parking, which matters when you're fitting BJJ in around a workday.
