Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Deerfield Beach — 30 Minutes South via A1A or I-95

Deerfield Beach is about 30 minutes south of us — A1A or I-95 both work, with A1A being more scenic and I-95 typically faster off-peak. Winners Jiu-Jitsu Academy serves Deerfield Beach students with a 2x World Cup Champion head coach, structured kids programs from age 3, and an adult group that includes serious competitors. The drive is honest but real; we'll help you decide if we're the right fit.

Deerfield Beach is one of the more accessible north-Broward markets for us — the I-95 + William Lehman Causeway route runs about 30 minutes off-peak, and A1A south through Hillsboro Beach and Hollywood Beach is roughly the same time with much better scenery. Most of our Deerfield Beach students prefer A1A in the evening (the post-class drive home is genuinely pleasant) and I-95 for Saturday morning when speed matters more than view.

The students we see from Deerfield Beach fit a recognizable pattern: adults who've trained somewhere before and want a champion-level head coach as their primary instructor, or families with a competition-track kid whose closer school isn't structured enough. For most casual beginners just exploring BJJ, we'd suggest starting at a closer north-Broward gym — the 30-minute drive becomes a quiet friction that ends consistency for new habits.

A typical weekly pattern for our Deerfield Beach students: 1–2 weeknight classes (usually the 7 PM adult slot) plus Saturday morning. Some add a monthly private with Coach Jonatas to accelerate specific aspects of their game. The combination of group rolls plus targeted private work is how serious students from a 30-minute radius typically structure their training.

Coach Jonatas Gurgel is a 2x IBJJF World Cup Champion, 3x Pan American Champion, 4x Brazilian National Champion, and 3x World Championship bronze medalist. He has 25+ years on the mats and has coached at Winners in Sunny Isles since 2012. For Deerfield Beach students whose criterion is "best instruction within 35 minutes," we're a serious option.

Deerfield Beach FAQ

Questions from Deerfield Beach residents

How long is the drive from Deerfield Beach?+

About 30 minutes off-peak via I-95 south + William Lehman Causeway. A1A south is similar off-peak and more pleasant for evening drives home. Rush hour can push either route closer to 40 minutes.

Is this realistic for weekly training?+

Yes, especially at 1–2 sessions per week plus Saturday morning. Beyond that the drive becomes a real factor — at which point most Deerfield students add a private lesson rather than a third weekly group class.

Should I train here or at a closer Deerfield gym?+

For casual beginners, a closer option will get you to the same place with less friction. For serious students, competitors, or families with a competition-track kid, the champion-level head coach is the specific differentiator that justifies the drive.

Do you have many Deerfield Beach students?+

A small but consistent group, mostly in the adult 7 PM slot and Saturday 10 AM kids program. The Saturday class has the most predictable Deerfield drive times.

Which route is better — A1A or I-95?+

I-95 is usually faster, especially Saturday mornings. A1A is more scenic and feels shorter even when it isn't. Most of our Deerfield students use I-95 to come and A1A to go home.

Do you offer kickboxing too?+

Yes — adult kickboxing Tuesday/Thursday 7:30 PM and a separate kids kickboxing class for ages 8–13. Many Deerfield Beach adults pair one BJJ class with one kickboxing class per week.
